Making work for the public seems to come with a slew of fuzzy social expectations. How do you navigate the tension between care and boundaries? I asked Randi Buckley and Jordan Maney.
I tell people all the time that “gurus” only talk about creating community and connection around the work out about the work, but the most powerful way writers create community and connection of through the work. My fans don’t comment a lot but they read my stuff and have for years. They know we don’t have to talk because we connect through the writing
So true. SO true. Often my best customers/clients have been people who I don't know until they reach out to work together. They'll tell me, "I read everything you put out and have for years!" Yet, I've never seen their name before (and with my memory, I feel very confident saying that!). I do love comments & shares, of course, but my clients tend to be lurkers who connect with me through the work I've made.
